Agam dan teman-temannya ingin bersekolah, tapi orang tua mereka melarang. Kata mamak, Agam cukup mengaji di Meusanah saja. Di Meusanah, Agam sering bertemu Teuku Nyak Arief yang mendirikan sekolah Taman Siswa. Teuku Nyak Arief prihatin melihat banyak anak Aceh seperti Agam yang tidak bersekolah. Ia pun ingin mengubah keadaan.

At the Meunasah, Agam often met Teuku Nyak Arief, who had established a Taman Siswa school. Teuku Nyak Arief was concerned to see that many Acehnese children, like Agam, were unable to attend school.
